A ski trip to Styria, with the first Loden collection to take home.

Everything that makes us happy in the wintertime can be found around the Dachstein mountain: snow, sun, fresh air, time for relaxation,... 

And one day, we found the HAMMER MILL. It was love at first sight: an impressive iron colossus: old, heavy, massive, loud – like a remnant from another time.

Then as now, the aging “good worker” patiently, continuously and reliably produces the finest fabric in unsurpassed, HIGHEST QUALITY. 

The hammer mill has been operating solidly since 1888, and the ORIGINAL SCHLADMING PEARL-LODEN has been produced with its help since then. 

This especially valuable raw material inspired us immediately. While it was originally developed to resist the harshest Alpine weather conditions, it seemed obvious that with its robustness and durability, Loden is practically perfect for SUSTAINABLE TEXTILE products. 

We consciously decided on the Pearl-Loden from the manual fabrication on the hammer mill, also because contrary to conventional, industrial-made Loden textiles, it is made from UNDYED WOOL of AUSTRIAN MOUNTAIN SHEEP. 

All processing steps up to the finished Loden are carried out with the highest expertise in a traditional family-run business in Mandling in Styria, Austria.

100% made in Austria.

Style and Quality.

The attraction for us as designers was to bring Loden into an urban setting, in order to place it in a new context. Tradition meets urban lifestyle... 

We have followed the idea of FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION, and were looking for a clear, timeless design with enduring value. A preference for minimalism and the concept of less-is-more has also helped us to avoid any compromises in the realization of our aesthetics in the production process:

How many steps are necessary to make a ...SAID THE FOX bag? We counted them: Our Toiletry Case large is carefully handled 108 times before production is finally completed.

When choosing our partners for production, it is particularly important to us that the finishing is carried out with the utmost care - so not only the material is of the highest quality, but also the manual processing, making our products extremely durable. Sustainability means long-term pleasure!

How lucky: We found regional factories that share our quality awareness, and with which we have formed a strong team. Our collections are made by hand in Vienna and Austria. Like for instance in the TEXTIL MANUFAKTUR WIEN. An ambitious team with lots of appreciation to detail has created the highest production standards, and for over 20 years has shown how well SOCIAL COMMITMENT can work, and how fortunate and successful it can be at the same time.

We are grateful for any reduction to the essentials, because it is all too much, anyway. But though we really don’t want to miss a certain charm, personality and warmth.
